I have been on the whimsical and magical journey that is performance art.
I am currently a 3rd year student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. During my studies I have explored my cultural connections with the African diaspora as well as more contemporary current events.
During my most recent studies I have explored characters influenced by my child hood television shows and youthful years growing up in a beauty salon with my maternal grandmother traveling between Everett and Dorchester Massachusetts. In which I encounter neighborhood characters of Italian, Portuguese, Hispanic and Carribean descent.
Out of these experiences I developed a love for culture, beauty refinement consisting of hair and make up application as well as distinctive native accents and languages associated with certain cultures.
This past spring I created "Madam ZT" a disfigured alligator skinned woman, whom is beauty and beast from the deep bayous of New Orleans.
Madam ZT draws upon all that is mystic and combines natural medicine with conscious universal intuition. This revelation of truth and healing comes to those that seek out her services.
Prior to this explorative character based in carnival tradition, I also explored comedy via being a clown. I drew inspiration from the hilarious 90's television series "In Living Color" in which I was the niece of beloved "Homey the Clown". Finding humor through one of life's happiest and darkest emotions "love" looking for love in all the wrong places and using reference book guides in my search took viewers on a journey of me chasing my own tail.
Polar Dance
Most recently I had the opportunity to participate in a group performance with Pat Olezsko exploring concepts related to the environmental devastation a-dressing the chilling nature of Arctic drilling, spilling and killing. Featuring
overblown costumes, lithe action, and relentless wordplay.
It was a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon on July 18 @ 3pm at Boston's
Institute of Contemporary Art
We were led in by the Band.
I was delighted to be part of the water presentation in which I was part of a four person team wearing over 3k blue plastic bags!
We came rushing in to engulf all that is taken over by water.
Our glorious leader was a water sprite in which I completed her make-up design as well as did make up applications for myself and the other water performers.
